[ ABOUT MTB ROUTES]

MORE THAN 300 TRAILS AND COUNTING!!!! You've reached www.mtbroutes.co.za, the only up-to-date, constantly evolving web site in South Africa dedicated to mountain biking trails and related riding information! We've put in a huge amount of work and are getting closer to our goal of featuring every known mountain biking route in all of SA's nine provinces. You will notice that we did not attempt to re-invent the wheel ... Therefore we've linked to www.mybike.co.za(for bike product purchasing and second-hand wheeling and dealing), as well as www.raceday.co.za(where you can check out which races are happening when and where all around the country). Plus there are our Sponsors' Pages, filled with interesting info and products, as well as articles focussed on the best Bike Towns to go ride in, and a whole host of other links to must-have MTB resources.

Now for the R195.00 question (because that is all your annual subscription will cost): why would you want to subscribe to the site if you're getting the trail info for free anyway?

Easy answer: because you can get so much more. GREEN Routes are 'All Access' with limited route information, while RED Routes will give you a whole bunch of additional info, including a full route description and area overview. We are also in the process of adding downloadable altitude profiles, printable topographical maps and GPS track files to routes, and you will find a selection of routes throughout SA (especially in the Western and Eastern Cape) already feature some of these components.

Our aim is to make the site WIKI compatible, but need the help of the SA mountain biking community as a whole to achieve this. I know many riders are not keen to share their secret spots and that is fair enough, but the deal is this - for every trail you upload to the site, you get free access to www.mtbroutes.co.za for a year! Plus you can advertise your trails and/or bike-related services on the web site, and connect FOR NADA to our comprehensive database of South African leisure mountain bikers. In time, we plan to have access to the following info for each of our trails -:

Start Coordinates and How to Get There
• Route Overlay on a Topographical Map
• Route Description and Fast Facts Panel
• Accommodation Establishment Contacts
• Contact Person and Details of the Route

The site is obviously a work-in-progress (as I've already mentioned). Even though we have a lot of additional Red Routes now up on the site, many of these only feature in-depth info and do not have maps and altitude profiles as of yet. This will happen in due course, so feel free to check with us before signing up. Happy cranking!
