OVERVIEW

Aloe Ridge Hotel is a Sol Kerzner-built hotel in a horseshoe shape that lies at the rim of a natural amphitheatre which falls away to the river and waterfalls. All indigenous bush veld.

The major attraction of Aloe Ridge Hotel is it’s unique scenic locality. Situated only 40km from the Johannesburg City Centre on 525 ha of African bush veld in the Cradle Of Humankind. At an altitude of 1500 feet lower than Johannesburg, the vegetation and climate are almost subtropical.

On your bike

The Kromdraai Conservancy is part of the broader Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site.

This is a moderate 3km singletrack circuit through indigenous vegetation lining the Crocodile River. Zwartkop Mountain, a prominent landmark in the area, is an impressive backdrop to this little ride with its sheer rock faces rising up from the river and a proliferation of aloes upon its friendlier slopes. If you would like to extend your ride, the dirt road accessing the hotel provides a challenging climb all the way up to Beyers Naudé, and links to the 27km Kromdraai Loop discussed in the Cradle of Humankind site.

Off the bike

There is an ‘after dinner’ walking trail along the banks of the river.
