OVERVIEW

Starting at Helderberg Farm, this 10km circular route negotiates various terrain and surface options.

On your bike

Set on a private farm within the foothills of the Helderberg Mountains (between Somerset West and Stellenbosch), this circular route negotiates various terrain types and surface options. Although it is quite short, these variations make it an enjoyable ride for both beginners and intermediate riders.

The Helderberg Farm Trail offers superb views over False Bay, Table Mountain and the Stellenbosch vineyards. This in itself should be enough to motivate you to ascend the moderate climbs and zoom the downhills and flat sections. Plus they now have more than 5km of purpose-built singletrack of a good enough quality to host provincial XC events – go have a blast!

Off the bike

Great hiking in the beautiful Helderberg Nature Reserve, explore the gorgeous beaches of Gordon’s Bay, or go wine tasting.

HOW TO GET THERE

Head from Cape Town along the N2 towards Somerset West and turn left onto the R44. After approximately 4.5km, turn right onto the Klein Helderberg Road and follow the signage for 1km.

Protected from prevailing winds most of the year; sheltered, even from the southeaster.
