OVERVIEW

This eco-lodge offers beauty in nature, peace and tranquility, close to birds and animals. With mountains, indigenous forest, rivers and bushveld in a peaceful, private setting.

On your bike

Beginner Trail:

This trail starts with a single track downhill through indigenous forest which makes for a great beginning to an awesome trail. The trail makes its way along farm roads before moving onto a cattle track which is fast and flowing. Just after the cattle track there is rocky but rideable dry river bed crossing. Enjoy the quiet easy cruise along farm roads before encountering the “switchbacks” – ride and learn. Once at the top of the hill you will make your way back to the farmhouse via the entrance road. This trail is approximately 7 kilometres.

Intermediate Trail:

This trail starts the same as the beginner trail up until the top of the “switchbacks”. From here you will cruise along farm roads until you reach the “hike-a-bike hill”. Now you continue on through the farm along forestry roads until you reach the furthest boundary where you will encounter a memorable downhill single-track with technical corners and various obstacles along the way. This single-track will take you through some of South Africa’s finest indigenous forests. The last section of the trail is a single-track through a pine plantation that drops out onto a farm road that leads you back to the start.

Advanced Trail:

The advanced trail starts by riding the intermediate trail. When reaching the end of this trail you will make your up towards Schnelskop. The first section of the advanced trail is a tough granny-gear climb that at times becomes quite rocky. After some hard work you will reach some flat forest roads which take you towards Schnelskop peak. The last kilometer to the top of Schnelskop is a concrete road known as “death by concrete”. This may be a monster to climb but makes for a fast and furious decent on the way down. The route to the finish follows the same forestry roads back before taking a new route down the mountain to Kurisa Moya. It is important to practice caution on this decent into the lodge.

Off the bike

Kurisa Moya has a large dam that is regularly restocked with rainbow trout. Fishermen can expect to reel in trout of between 300g and 1 kg. Fishing lessons are available with all the equipment for hire.
Kurisa Moya has over 250 species of birds in 5 different habitats. When you take a guided bird walk, you have the unique opportunity to find and identify the special birds of the area.

For stressed-out city dwellers who come to Kurisa Moya to relax or re-energise, we offer relaxation treatments for body & soul.   Try a massage or Cranio-Sacral Therapy Treatment in beautiful surroundings or restore the soul with magnificent views on the 4 x 4 drive.

Follow the N1 from Johannesburg to Pretoria. Stay on the N1 and follow the signs to Pietersburg / Polokwane. Just before Pietersburg / Polokwane take the Tzaneen R71 off-ramp.

Go through a traffic light and a 4 way stop and take the slipway to the left next to the highway, turning right at the traffic light onto the R71 towards Tzaneen. About 19.5 km out of Pietersburg / Polokwane, take the slipway to the left to the University of Limpopo, at the Kurisa Moya sign. There is a Sasol Filling Station and a Kentucky Fried Chicken on the opposite corner.

Follow this road for about another 26 km until it becomes a sand or dirt road. (You will pass the University of Limpopo and Mankweng Town and Hospital) Watch out for goats and cows on this strech of road. 500 m after it has become sand, look out on the left for Kurisa Moya's sign. Turn right, pass through the gate and follow the signs to the farmhouse or the Forest Lodge. (The reception can be found just below the guest parking at the end of the Farmhouse road)
