OVERVIEW

This 2,000 ha farm with breathtaking scenery and rich vegetation leaves a lasting impression on visitors. Mateke offers guests an intimate and relaxing atmosphere unique to the Kransberg bushveld.

On your bike

Mountain biking is along tracks and roads shared with hikers and 2x4 vehicles. Cycle at sunrise or sunset for the best game-viewing opportunities. Kransveld bushveld is very dense in summer so cyclists can expect better game-viewing opportunities in winter, when the bush dies down. The trail offers a very diverse range of terrain, from sandy patches to rocky areas, with grades from flat to hilly, as well as some water crossings which are sure to keep the interest of any mountain biker.

There are two marked bike trails of 8 and 12 km (beginners to moderate)

Hiking trails can also be used for cycling.

Njala Trail (13km): follows the Mamba river with its natural rock pools, takes one to stunning views and wonderful picnic spots.  Make time to enjoy a good swim in the rock pools and enjoy real Waterberg Bushveld.

Kudu Trail (9km or 16km) goes into the mountains and through dense indigenous forest, to kloof areas with unspoilt bushveld as far as the eye can see.

Shorter links and escape routes are available for children and beginners.

Off the bike

Other activities at Mateke include two hiking trails, game-viewing drives in your own car and challenging 4x4 trails.
