ROUTE NAME - Knysna Rotary Mtb Challenge] |
The race route starts with a fast exit from the sports field and will take you to the edge of town and across the N2 in a matter of minutes. This is where you leave the tar and go onto gravel road. Almost immediately you’ll start climbing. It flattens a little and then you climb again. After this initial climb, you’ll be riding undulating with some single and dual single track as part of the parcel. Stunning sections of indigenous forest with patches of open grassland. Plenty of views and see if you can spot the elusive Knysna Loerie.
As soon as it starts raining, the surface becomes quite slimy at places and extremely muddy in other areas.

- GRADING: The 85km is tough, the 50km a little less so and an easy fun ride
- DURATION: Depends on your fitness and expertise
- CONFIGURATION : A circular, zigzag, snake dodging stunner!
- START POINT: The High School sports ground at 34º 02' 193" South and 23º 02' 294" East
- TERRAIN: 45% Gravel road, 55% Jeep and 5% single track
- MAP: 3423AA and 3323CC - 1:50 000 or you might be able to find a map at one of the local Cycle shops. If you subscribe to the "Red route" option, you'll get all that info on this site.
- MORE INFORMATION:
- ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Entry fees are variable but no other requirements apart from the obvious - bike, helmet and Rider.
- FACILITIES: Parking at the Sports ground. It’s the Oyster festival – loads happening!
- BEWARE OF: Snakes – real ones – on the jeep tracks during summer. Be prepared for various weather conditions. It changes in a wink.
