  [ OVERVIEW ]

On your bike
The Mazda Clarens Marathon and RCI Half Marathon take place in and around the picturesque town of Clarens every August.

Bergwoning Farm, bordering the golden Gate National Park, is surrounded by characteristic sandstone and basalt mountains, making for a mountain biker’s paradise.

Above the Clouds (18km circuit): This off-road ride is available on request, since the route goes onto a neighbouring property. Climbing to an altitude 2,100 metres above sea level, expect a challenging ride. The reward is outstanding scenery while riding a roller coaster of valleys and mountains. The tracks are technical so this is not a ride for the unfit or inexperienced mountain biker.

Bergwoning (7km circuit): You can ride your mountain bike along the 4x4 track with several technical sections and wet foot encounters along the Klein Caledon river. With eye-catching scenery and easy access, Bergwoning is nice for the weekender that wants to do a technical short route at high altitude for one or two hours and help in any unlikely emergency is close by.

Off your bike
Bergwoning Farm is a quaint getaway with access to hiking trails, abseiling, mountain-biking, clay pigeon shooting, fly-fishing, hunting, wing-shooting and bird watching. The Klein Caledon River flows year round so there are several swimming holes to choose from. There is also a farm dam to take a breather and a dip, if the rains have been good. There’s a conventional swimming pool at neighbouring Kiara Lodge.
