On your bike
The Bay to Bay View Route gets its name from the spectacular views of Tsitsikamma, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Sedgefield as the trail, situated within the Milkwood Nature Reserve, meanders through the rugged splendour of the Outeniqua Mountains. The circular route (22 km) follows a 4x4 route and can be done as a two-day ride if preferred. Start off Day 1 with a 14 km pedal from the apple farm Vergenoeg, to wind to the crest of the Outeniqua Mountains. A short detour along the way to the Spitskop Viewpoint (8 km) is worth it just to take in the incredible panorama. From here, follow the ridge line before dropping down into the Millwood basin to the campsite. No need to rush breakfast as Day 2 is an easy 8 km ride. Follow the same route back up to the crest and look out for the signs to the Start/Finish. Look out for klipspringer, duiker, grysbok, bushpig, baboon and the rarely seen leopard.
Off your bike
The region boasts a number of awesome nature destinations including Towerkop and the Kammanassie Nature Reserve just outside Uniondale. Day hikes, game-viewing, star gazing or mountain-biking along hundreds of kilometers of gravel roads are just a few of the outdoor possibilities. This is also the gateway to the scenic fruit orchards of the Langkloof and the legendary Baviaanskloof, one of South Africa’s prime wilderness destinations. Oudtshoorn, George and Knysna are around the corner, each offering visitors a host of leisure and action options.
