ROUTE NAME - Salmonsdam Nature Reserve MTB Route] |
On your bike
Although there is currently no designated MTB Route, plenty of riding opportunities exist on the network of jeep tracks within the reserve. Crank into granny gear along a gnarly climb to the top of the mountain for a breathtaking view of Walker Bay, Caledon and Bredasdorp. The terrain varies between rocky and sandy, but the overall road surface is good. The trail traverses pristine fynbos and, if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of klipspringer, duiker, rhebuck, baboon or some of the other small mammals inhabiting the nature reserve.
Off your bike
Hills and remnant forests, rivers and rock pools and mountain views of the distant sea attract hikers, bird-watchers and nature lovers to this little-known nature reserve, 37 km inland from Hermanus. Shady campsites and basic overnight cabins provide a back-to-nature experience.
