ROUTE NAME - Elandsberg MTB Trail] |
On your bike
The ride kicks off along 5 km of farm road winding through fynbos, rooibos tea plantations and oat fields. Then the route climbs into the Elandsberg along a typical hiking trail, with steep drop-offs and short climbs. You’ll need to negotiate rocks and natural obstacles along the route as you ascend up and around the upper reaches of Elandsberg. From the summit, the route traverses a ridge affording magnificent views of the Cederberg region. The trail tends to be technical, with the surface consisting of loose rocks and erosion ruts in places. Encounters with small antelope like steenbok and duiker are possible along the ride, and sightings of raptors such as black eagles and jackal buzzard are common.

Other activities on at Elandsberg include hiking. There are two other hiking trails as well as guided safaris exploring the endemic fynbos vegetation and scrambling high into the rugged sandstone peaks. Guided hikes to rock painting may also be arranged. Visit the historic Citrusdal Baths, or explore the stunning kloofing routes, climbs and mountain hikes crisscrossing the Olifants River, Koue Bokkeveld and Cederberg region. Other activities include fly-fishing on the Olifants River, wine tasting at various wineries or an evening of star-studded entertainment at the Cederberg observatory.
