OVERVIEW This part of the Eastern Cape is famous for its legendary riding and many informal trails along the grassland slopes here definitely deserve a double thumbs-up..
On your bike From Trout Lodge head down the valley via farm roads until you reach the river. Here the going is rough with a portage along the first ridge before riding/pushing along sheep and stock tracks towards the first watering tank. From here it is an awesome crank along a sheep-cum-game track through the Blesbok Camp. Cross the fence onto a jeep track traversing the ridge line to the left, passing a couple of reservoirs along the way. As you loop down towards the house, pass through a gate to bomb a singletrack section past the power line, then rocket home through the horse paddocks back to the farm. Want gravel? Crank onto the 4X4 route linking the farmhouse and various lodges to the quirky town of Hogsback. This route winds along the valley carved by the Kliphuis River, incorporating steep climbs and fast downhills. If you’re singletrack minded, follow the many stock- and game footpaths linking reservoirs and watering holes along the grassy ridges for awesome riding.
Off the bike Horseback riding on the farm or a day out in Hogsback, hiking or shopping.
