[ OVERVIEW ]

Please turn back if you come across a no cycling sign anywhere. Note when you see an inverted arrow i.e. white on your route colour, this means you are headed for home or it gives you the option of a short cut or quick way home.

Safety: Be aware that cane harvesting is from mid April till Christmas. Be aware for tractors and vehicles at all times! These are working farms we ride through and the tractors must be given right of way as they carry heavy loads and take a long time to stop. Please move out of their way quickly for your safety.

Green route 15 km: Really easy riding for newer riders. Very flat easy riding with a few short sections of sand which can make things tricky. The lack of hills makes up for the sand. It is possible to turn back early in a couple of places for those who are feeling weary. Suitable for younger kids on gear bikes but be careful of the tar road crossing in the first and last km of the route.

Blue route Shorter 10km option
Follow the Blue route until the end of the single track than take the quick way home. Great for older kids and adults who like the adventure of the lovely 1.5 km Living Earth single track that starts at the Living Earth dam. Make sure you take the “early home route” 800 metres after coming out the single track otherwise you will be doing the full 20 km route. You can also do it the single track again by turning right at the dam wall.

Blue route - The full 20km:
Our signature route and the best all-rounder route to ride with a bit of everything for everyone. This follows the route of the first Golovane 20 km MTB race. Medium to hard difficulty 20 km trail. Keep following the blue arrows after the Living Earth Single track continue with some lovely riding along the Umhlali river and up the infamous “fig tree hill”. Some rolling hills to the followed by a fast descent on the district road brings you back to Holla Trails. There is also an extra 1.5 km loop you can take as you join the district road (at 17 km mark)

Red Route 28 km:
A new 28 km route suited more for riders looking to put in some training km. A long district road climb brings you through some rough farm roads and than a steep grassy rutted downhill before some very scenic valley roads bring you back to Holla. This route will mature in winter when the farm traffic has knocked the grasses down.

Orange Route 13 km

This was set up as a time trial route until we realised that it gets too dark in winter for time trialing during the week. It follows the first 8 km of Blue 20 km before taking an early climb to the fig tree ridge and following a sweeping downhill back to the Living Earth dam and home to Holla.

Purple route 25km
This is our latest route and is a good challenging ride up into the escarpment. Follow the arrows which go out with the blue and black route. A fair amount of climbing in the beginning 10km but well worth the stunning single track, which is close on 2km. Then the rest is gentle winding back down the escarpment on the same route until the top of the hill, where you will find another fun winding single track passed and over the dam. Then short burst home to Holla.

Maroon route 25km
Voted our No.1 route so far. Goes out with blue and purple. 50m passed blue you turn in right. There is a good challenging amount of up hills on this route, but loads of fantastic single track as well! A great all round route with the best of everything for any MTB enthusiast, but be warned it is very challenging but extremely rewarding.

Golovane X-plore route to the Escarpment:
A really tough ride with the first 36 km being hard climbing. Recommended for the fitter riders looking for a good challenge and amazing trail. There is a shortcut at 18 km marked by an inverted arrow (white arrow on black)

There are 3 versions for riding the Black Route:
VERSION 1: take the first quick way home at 18 km which than gives you the choice of the big climb to Howard's Bush (8 km) or take the last “quick way home” for a total of 39 km and 800 m climbing.
VERSION 2: Take the second “quick way home” at about 31 km. This will cut out the last climb to the escarpment and take you straight to the 4 wheeler track in mamba valley. You than have the choice of Howards Bush or straight home as per above.
VERSION 3: Ride the full route making approximately 82 km of good challenging riding.
