OVERVIEW

Hillandale Farm is set within the folds of the Nuweveld Mountains and sprawls along the arid and mountainous Karoo outside Beaufort West.

On your bike

Riding on the farm is along a network of farm roads and 4X4 routes crisscrossing a diverse landscape resplendent with grass veld plains, rocky kopjes and lone windmills. Bird life is exceptional and wildlife includes kudu, fallow deer and reedbuck; the endangered riverine rabbit is also found in the area.
Road surface is generally good, but expect hard going through sections of sand and a few rocky river crossings along the way. The Krom River Route (34km return) follows a (sometimes dry) river course through dramatic canyon badlands, while the Sneeukop (64km return) and Spitzkop (53km) trails traverse the remote and beautiful Karoo highlands.

Off the bike

The Karoo National Park, less than 70km away, offers exceptional off-road routes and a diverse mix of fauna and flora, while the nearby town of Beaufort West features an eclectic mix of architectural delights, antique shops and country cuisine.

HOW TO GET THERE

Follow the N1 north through Beaufort West, then turn left onto De Jagers Pass road and continue for 48km before turning right to Hillandale at the signboard.
