OVERVIEW

Anysberg Nature Reserve nestles deep within the wild and remote heart of the Little Karoo. More than
63 000ha of wide-sky space is home to striking mountain scenery interspersed with rugged mountain
gorges. An abundance of flora, from succulents and spiky renosterveld to hardy protea, proliferates
within the arid environs.

On your bike

A rewarding ride follows the horse trail to the overnight hut (26km return) or there is the 28km return route to Prinspoort.

Anysberg Nature Reserve nestles deep within the wild and remote heart of the Little Karoo. More than 63,000 ha of wide-sky space is home to striking mountain scenery interspersed with rugged mountain gorges.

An abundance of flora, from succulents and spiky renosterveld to hardy protea, proliferates within the arid environs. There are good gravel roads and singletrack trails throughout the Reserve and mountain bikers will be spoilt for choice.

A rewarding ride follows the horse trail to the overnight hut (26 km return) or there is the 28 km return route to Prinspoort, the impressive gorge through the Anysberg mountain.

Winter and summer temperatures are extreme, so pack water, sun block and a warm shell.

Off the bike

Swimming or canoeing at Rooidamme, or 4X4 trails.Super day hikes and an overnight poly trail criss-cross Anysberg Nature Reserve with many interesting archaeological and San rock art sites to visit along the way. A diverse range of fauna, including gemsbok, red hartebeest, Cape mountain zebra and springbok, makes for good game-viewing. Elusive leopards still roam the harsh and remote kloofs, but are rarely seen.

HOW TO GET THERE

Turn off the N1 at Laingsburg towards Ladismith, cross the Rooinek Pass, then turn right and follow the signs for Anysberg.


BEST TIME OF YEAR

Summer months can be uncomfortably hot and winter can be freezing, with snow.
