OVERVIEW The West Coast National Park has a range of cycling routes as well as two mountain-biking trails.
On your bike The shorter of the two trails is the Green trail. Starting at Langebaan Park Gate, turn right onto the old Bottelary dirt road (lift your bike over the chain) to link with the original old ‘white’ road. Turn right here (note there’s a vegetation reclamation project on the right). Crank on to the Seeberg Bird Hide from where it is an easy ride back to the gate (13km). Follow the Red signs for the slightly longer Red trail, as for the Green route, but turn off to the right up the Seeberg Lookout road, then return to the tar road and continue towards Geelbek. The second variation is at Mooimaak, where you follow the Red signs around and down along a circular route back to the tar road. When you get here, turn left for a short ride to the Bottelary turn-off as indicated on the Green trail (17km).
Off the bike Langebaan’s estuary is the perfect destination for a sunny day out with the family. It rates as one of the world’s best-known kite-boarding and windsurfing spots, and the fishing, bird-watching and hiking trails offer breathtaking outdoor entertainment.
