OVERVIEW

A wide variety of riding options all starting at La Motte Plantation, along gravel roads, jeep-track and singletrack traverse this working plantation.

On your bike

At the time of writing this, there was a lot of talk of a PPA-funded trail for Franschhoek around the new dam, but the current state of (legal) riding seems to be very much focused on La Motte Plantations administered by MTO.

Riders who have done Geddan Ruddock’s annual MTB event will know the routes through La Motte and know that there is now enough singletrack amid the jeep track to make riders whoop with delight.

Local knowledge will be good to help you find your way in the massive pine plantations, and it will be well worth your while to join the Manic Cycles outrides on Sundays.

HOW TO GET THERE

Take the R45 from Franschhoek and turn onto the Robertsvlei Road to La Motte; look for the Glenwood turn-off.
