OVERVIEW Tugela River Lodge and Hideaway is a self catering bushcamp on a private game farm in the Central Drakensberg and has some awesome scenery. On your bike Various mountain biking opportunities exist incluing along the 4x4 trail.Off the bike Guided walks, a 4x4 trail, quad biking, fishing, and canoeing. Historical tours up Spioenkop Mountain by the Farmer/Owner, Gary Green, are popular. Neighbouring Spioenkop Game Reserve has game-viewing on horseback and great stretch of water for sailing or boating. Directions from Durban: Take the N3 North. After Estcourt, pass Ultra City, then take the first offramp Left to BERGVILLE/CENTRAL DRAKENSBERG. Proceed left towards Winterton. Go STRAIGHT through Winterton. After 1km take the R600 right to Spioenkop Dam. Proceed straight for 22km. Tugela River Lodge is on your right hand side just before the steep hill. Directions from Gauteng: Take the N3 South towards Durban. Go straight through the Tugela Toll Plaza. After 10kms you will find the Bergville offramp. Go up the left ramp and then LEFT towards LADYSMITH. After 4.6kms turn right onto the R600 towards Spioenkop Dam. After 11kms at the bottom of the 2nd steep hill you will find Tugela River Lodge on your left hand side. |
HOW TO GET THERE BEST TIME OF YEAR Summer months can be hot, so start early. Avoid Dec-Feb riding as it gets very hot. |
